Weir impresses on CrossFit world stage
Horsham’s Lilly Weir has announced herself as one of the fittest teenagers in the world after recently taking part in the Teenage CrossFit Games held in the United States.

The prestigious international event took place in Columbus, Ohio, where Weir competed against 30 of the best 16-17 aged female CrossFit athletes in the world.
Having qualified for the Games earlier in the year, Weir competed in eight different workouts across four days, ultimately finishing 13th in the event.
The 17-year-old was the second-best Australian and Oceanian representative in the competition, behind Sophie Robinson, who finished tenth.
Weir was accompanied by mum, Trudi, and coaches Ravi Araujo and Maddie Iredell, who have overseen the teenager since she began CrossFit at their HCF Horsham CrossFit gym.
Araujo was proud of Weir’s performance across the challenging competition, which included top-seven finishes in two of her eight events.
“She should be very happy with herself; she did an amazing job,” Araujo said.
“It was a very competitive group of young girls. The next generation of CrossFitters is very strong, and she's right there in the middle of them.
“It was a really great experience for her.”
Miley Wade from the United States of America was crowned champion of the Teenage CrossFit Games, with Switzerland’s Maria Granzio and Brazil’s Ana Laura Cattai rounding out the podium in second and third, respectively.
Having started CrossFit two years ago, Weir quickly emerged as one of the best athletes for her age, with her recent achievement further evidence of her progression.
Coach Araujo says one of the next steps for Weir will be advancing to open-age competition, believing the youngster has the potential to continue improving rapidly.
“She will progress through to adult competition, which is just a different level,” Araujo said.
“She does have everything she needs to be at the top with the best in the competition.
“When she started CrossFit, then to her first CrossFit competition three months after that, the improvement was crazy.
“So I can only expect that kind of improvement to keep being exponential, and once she develops as a woman completely, I think she's just gonna get stronger, she's just gonna get fitter.
“I think from now to three months in the future, she's going to improve five years faster than a lot of people would.”
Weir now has her sights on Australia’s premier CrossFit event, the Down Under Championship, which takes place in Wollongong on October 24-26.
