With the joint Horsham and Grampians soccer competition set to commence in May, interested players are encouraged to join preseason training sessions at Dudley Cornell Park.

In conjunction with Grampians United, Horsham Soccer Club is in the process of organising a local social soccer competition, with a proposed start date of May 5.

As well as offering a low sign-up cost, club president Paul Barnett said the competition provided an option for people to enjoy the benefits that soccer could offer.

“The pricing we’ve come up with is pretty sharp, we’re looking at $110 for adults,” Barnett said.

“That’s probably one of the cheapest options for sport around here.

“It’s a great option for people for their general health, and it doesn’t matter how good you are, whether you’ve played soccer before or not, it’s about having a kick around and having fun.

“As we know, sport is a great thing to help with mental health.

“It gets people out of the house and it’s a good opportunity to talk to people and get a good break from that every day.”

Barnett said the competition currently had enough for three or four teams, with the ideal aim being to fill six teams across both the Horsham area and the Grampians.

“We’ve currently got enough for a couple teams at the moment and potentially looking at three,” Barnett said.

“We’ve touched base with Grampians United and they’ve currently got enough for a team.

“It would be nice to fill another three teams, whether that’s here or at the Grampians."

Horsham Soccer Club preseason training is currently taking place at Dudley Cornell Park on Fridays from 5.30pm and Sundays from 12.30pm.

From April 8, the club will introduce an additional weekly session on Wednesday evenings from 5.30pm.

Interested players are welcome to contact Paul Barnett on 0400 970 471 or visit the Horsham & District Soccer Club Facebook page for more information.
