Shawcross singles champ at Serviceton for second year
Karen Shawcross is the Serviceton Bowling Club Ladies' Singles Champion for the 2025-26 bowling season.
Karen played well to win the championship this year, taking the title for the second year in a row.
The preliminary rounds were played on the morning of Saturday November 29.
All of the games were close between the competitors so play extended for some time.
One game in the second round, between Bev Makin and Gwen Colwill, lasted for 32 ends, with each player winning 16 ends.
The final between Bev and Karen on Sunday drew a gallery to watch the play, braving the wind and the skiffy rain.
It was a great game to watch with both players rolling long ends and placing good bowls.
Karen, with her smooth delivery of the bowls, managed to just stay in front of Bev’s consistent play.
The final score saw Karen 25 to Bev 20, with Karen winning only two more ends than Bev.
In midweek pennant last week Serviceton played Dimboola at Serviceton, with Dimboola winning by one shot.
This week we travelled to Horsham City.
In Saturday club bowls Serviceton played for the PA and EE Grosser Shield, the winning team being Mark Shawcross, Loma Wallis and Les Millikin.
