Horsham duo help end Victoria Country’s drought

Horsham's Levi Munyard and Micah Livingstone have claimed gold with Victoria Country in the 2025 Basketball Australia Under 18 National Championships.

The young Hornets capped off a stellar week by defeating NSW Metro 83-74 in a seesawing gold medal contest on Sunday, April 13.

Munyard, captaining the side from the bench, scored five vital points in the decider, hitting a game-sealing three in the last quarter, giving Victoria Country its first national championship in 35 years.

While Livingstone did not take the court in the grand final, he saw essential minutes during the tournament as the reserve centre to Will Hamilton.

The Horsham star played an important role in Victoria Country's games against the ACT and the Northern Territory, highlighted by a 12-point, eight-rebound outing against the latter.

It was a phenomenal achievement for Victoria Country after losing its champiosnhip opener against NSW Metro.

The squad had to beat Queensland North, South Australia Metro, Western Australia Country, the Northern Territory and the ACT to secure a place in the final four.

The side then defeated Western Australia Metro 87-76 to book their place in the revenge game against NSW Metro.

In the women's game, Victoria Metro defeated South Australia Metro 111-79.

Munyard and Livingstone celebrated the championship with their team mates in Moreton Bay, Queensland, before flying home on Monday afternoon.
