Fellowship and fundraising
Members of the Southern Mallee Cooperative Parish are well known for their generosity and a recent gathering of members from Rainbow and Hopetoun proved that yet again.
Over a century ago, Presbyterian Minister, Rev John Flynn, known as Flynn of the Inland, had a vision to reduce the isolation and improve the health of those in remote areas.
Rev Flynn offered faith and social support, and medical services to those who had no access to any of those.
Through his work, the Royal Flying Doctor Service began and since then, other services have developed, including the Uniting Church in Australia’s organisation, Frontier Services.
This provides faith, social and practical support to those doing it tough and living on isolated farms and communities.
Church Members gathered at Lake Lascelles in Hopetoun to hear about and provide support for, Frontier Servies, providing an opportunity for worshipping together, sharing food, fellowship and fundraising.
The evening commenced with a service prepared and led by Pam Clugston, where stories of the hope that faith provides were shared. Members were encouraged to be involved and share their own stories as well as those from Frontier Services.
Following the Service, a meal was enjoyed, with the usual generous bounty.
Further big heartedness was shown with $800 raised to support the work of Frontier Services.
