Cr Ross returns to council
The Horsham Rural City Council's Monday, February 23, meeting had a full complement of councillors for the first time in several months, with Cr Ian Ross returning after leave of absence for medical treatment.

Cr Ross said he was pleased to return to duty after a challenging time, and that he is in good health, with the most recent results showing an excellent recovery.
"Many of the doctors and staff have said they were surprised at my recovery and how well I am," he said.
"I can feel my muscles returning, and I am gaining weight, so those are all positive signs."
Cr Ross said he particularly wanted to thank the wonderful people of Horsham and the surrounding district for their ongoing prayers.
"I believe in the power of prayer, and their prayers have helped sustain me through challenging times, and I believe have greatly contributed to my recovery," he said.
Mayor Brian Klowss welcomed Cr Ross at the meeting and said it was especially pleasing to see him in good health.
Cr Ross officially resumed his duties on February 16, after being granted leave of absence on October 21 2025, rejoining his fellow councillors in serving the community.
He expressed his sincere appreciation to colleagues and the community for their support during his absence.
“I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to Mayor Cr Brian Klowss for his leadership and commitment while I have been on leave. His dedication ensured the community continued to be well supported during a challenging time,” Cr Ross said, referring to the January 9 fires.
“I am deeply grateful for the overwhelming support shown to me and my family.
"Taking time to focus on my health was made easier knowing the council was in capable hands - with the mayor, councillor group, CEO Gail Gatt and all council staff continuing to deliver for our community. It gives me immense pride to be part of such a strong and supportive community.”
Cr Klowss expressed his pleasure to see Cr Ross in chambers.
“It’s great to see Cr Ross back. Not only does he bring valuable experience, but it’s reassuring to see him back in good health and ready to return," he said.
"We’ve all been looking forward to having him back with us."
He said the council looked forward to his continued contributions and service to the community.
